Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung “NewJeans is so good that you just want to keep watching + I feel like I gave birth to Hyein”

On September 11th, a video titled “The Tears of Girls’ Generation We Loved Back Then / Hyoyeon who buys me food well EP.11 Girls’ Generation Sooyoung Part 2” was released on the YouTube channel “Hyo’s Level Up”.
As Sooyoung prepares for her solo debut, she reflected on moments that made her happy while preparing her album. She shared, “To debut as a solo artist, I thought, ‘Isn’t it a bit late for me?’ But honestly, I’ve always wanted to do it. I kept knocking on the door. I was continually expressing my wish, but the timing was off, and things didn’t align well. But this year, it all came together perfectly.”
She continued, “Being in my 30s now, I think I understand a bit more now. Whether it’s dance, singing, or acting, I feel like I’m just starting to understand it now. There were times when I worked so hard without knowing anything. Now that I feel like I understand a bit, I think, ‘Isn’t there something I can do?’ So, I participated in everything from A to Z. There wasn’t a part I didn’t touch while doing this project. And that’s been so enjoyable for me. This time, I brought in all the songs from my lyric archive.”
Hyoyeon said, “I think I’ll be so excited. I can’t even imagine how it will turn out. You remind me of artists like Namie Amuro and BoA. I’m so curious.” Sooyoung replied, “But with you and Taeyeon as well, the solo standards for Girls’ Generation are so high. It’s really challenging.“

Sooyoung also revealed how fellow member Tiffany reacted to her solo song. “I sent it to Tiffany. Then I got a video call from her. So I answered, and she was crying. She said she felt how hard I worked, and it made her cry. Tiffany said she thought of me when I was 12, and that made her cry. But I also remember when Tiffany had her first concert in LA. I went to see it and when she started the opening song, I really started crying a lot. Because of the time we spent together. Thinking about how much she must have worked hard and struggled to get there. And tears started flowing. I think it really connected with her. Because we shared and understood each other’s growth periods. When a member does something different, you can really feel, ‘This person is constantly improving.’“
At this, Hyoyeon, who could empathize with both Tiffany and Sooyoung, also shed tears. Sooyoung joked, “If people saw this, they’d find it hilarious. They’d be like, ‘What’s wrong with them?’” She then added, “I really worked hard on my vocal lessons this time. I have to sing my solo part for 3 minutes all by myself. I haven’t practiced singing like this in a long time. So, I now have to understand the vocal line Taeyeon, Tiffany and Seohyun’s struggles.“
When asked if there were any juniors she particularly admired, Sooyoung confessed, “There is a junior group I purely love so much—NewJeans. NewJeans are more than just cute, they do so well. They’re so good at what they do. When you watch them, they’re so good that you just want to keep watching. You end up looking up all their fan cams, and you can see their improvement.”
Hyoyeon agreed, saying, “It really shows how much they’re growing. Even though I’m not the one producing them, I feel so proud.” Sooyoung added “Yeah, as if I gave birth to them. Oh really, I feel like I gave birth to Hyein”, which brought laughter.
Meanwhile, Sooyoung will hold her solo debut showcase in Japan this October.
